iphoto problems...

Hi!

Something rather strange has happened to my photos in my iphoto library. Whenever I double click at a picker a big black window with an exclamation mark pops up instead of the picture.

I have also noticed that my photos have duplicated several times, and that when using spotlight to search for a specific photo 4 of the same in different sizes etc popup.

I tried to find any file that would contain the photos that I see in iphoto in “Finder”, and I looked everywhere but didn’t find ANYTHING!..

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

O.K., we need more information before we can help you. What version of iPhoto? What version of OSX are you using? Did you do anything to/with your photos from within the iPhoto library in finder? What folders in finder are you looking in?

iPhoto keeps the photos organized its own way so that the app can work as it should. If you have done anything to the photos in finder (renaming, organizing, etc.) you have thwarted its organization and the app will not operate correctly -- giving you the exclamation points you mentioned. First bit of advice -- Stay Out of the Finder!

Now, having said that, if you were looking in the library in finder, you may have seen duplicates etc. because iPhoto keeps the originals of any photos that were modified so that you can always revert back to them to re-modify from the original. If the multiples you saw were some in the Original folder, some in the Modified folder, and some in a data folder (these would be thumbnails that iPhoto needs in order to show you your photos in the app), then all is well. That would account for the dupes being different sizes. If the multiples are in places other than these, tell us where they were found.

Give us more information, and we will try to help.
