iPhoto seems to have lost pics

I was trying to create a project in iDVD and could not import (I'm not sure if that's the right word) the photos I wanted to use from iPhoto. Some of my photos were available but the ones I wanted were not. I can still view them in iPhoto but when I try to access them through Preview or on the hard drive through Finder, the files appear greyed out and cannot be opened. In trying I got a message about an "alias" problem, but I don't know how to fix this. The only difference I can think of between the photos that show up and the ones that don't is that I renamed the ones I can no longer access, whereas the ones that are accessible are still named as numbers (e.g., 0001234.jpg).

Any ideas on how I can restore/find/access these photos would be a huge help.

Thanks!

AliJ,

Welcome to MacOSX.com!

If you can view the photo in iPhoto, it's likely fine. If you want a file that you can email or whatever, run iPhoto, click the photo or photos you want to turn into a file (for example, on your desktop), click the "Share" menu, and click export. Should be self-explanitory after that.

Now, I'm using iPhoto 5. If you have an earlier version, you may have to look at the File menu to find "Export".

Let us know if you are successful and / or if you need more help.

By the way, I believe you can click on the picture you want to send to iDVD, hold down the mouse button, hit F9 (Expose), hold the picture over the iDVD window, and wait until the iDVD window comes to the front. Then, let go of the mouse button and your photo should "drop" into iDVD.
