ipod doesn't seem to work correctly ...

... yes it's really me!
Just purchased a 20GB ipod and a dock and have charged it up and plugged it in. On the ipod I get a flashing 'no waiting' sign and a 'Do not disconnect' underneath. It has been doing this for approximately 8 hours ... will it ever stop? :(

Some details ... my Mac is a G4 audio 466 (upgraded to 1GB), I am using OSX 10.3.8 (although just this minute I have noticed that 10.3.9 is available) and have just updated to the latest ipod software upgrade (3.0.2). My itunes is 9.58GB. I noticed also that itunes was NOT automatically called up when I plugged in.

I must admit I was very surprised at the lack of intelligent user feedback when I plugged the ipod in - all I get is a message on the ipod saying 'Do not disconnect'! ... helpful ... or what?

Can anyone help?

lol. The reason it says "Do not disconnect" is because if you unplugged it, the hard drive might still be doing something, and you might lose data. So what do you do?

Unmount it.

To unmount any volume, including CDs (like to eject them), or when you're done with an external hard disk, like the iPod, simply drag its desktop icon to the trash in the Dock to "eject" it. Or, alternatively, you can press the "eject" button beside the iPod icon in iTunes.

Once you've "ejected" (unmounted) the iPod, you'll see that the screen says something like "okay to disconnect" with a big check mark. Then you can unplug it.
