iPod Mini virus?

Recently, my iPod mini has been giving me a hard time. Whilst (hope im using that the right way) it is plugged into my computer, it crashes at random times. The computer (slot loading iMac running 10.3.9) sometimes freezes. Sometimes, iTunes freezes. Other times, other apps freeze. So i tried it on my brother's iBook Pro. It crashed to. We have tried restoring it to factory settings, but that doesn't seem to work. I have iTunes version 7.0, and my iPod mini is a 4GB.

I wonder if you can set it to Disk Mode so that it mounts as a hard drive and then run a Repair Disk on it using Disk Utility. Maybe something was corrupted in the filesystem on the iPod mini.

So basically, in plainer English, I should boot my computer using my iPod as the harddrive and run Disk Utility from there? Then in Disk Utility i do the Verify/Repair Disk Permissions thing, right? Sorry if i sound kinda dumb. I dont really bother doing stuff like that too often.

I think he means run a "repair disk" on it using Disk Utility. Right? It'll show up as a drive regardless of if it is set as a disk, so start up Disk Utility with the mini plugged in, select the mini in the list of drives, and run all the tests/repairs on it. Disk utility is in /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility

Tried that and i couldn't Verify Disk Permissions on my iPod. It says that Permissions are not enabled. Then I opened the info on the iPod and unchecked the box marked Ignore ownership on this volume. Still nothing
