ipod not syncing, invisible in Disk Utility

the title sums it up.

just picked up an ipod nano 1st gen. Reformatted for Mac. It's not syncing the ticked songs. I can manually drag them and it works fine otherwise, but it's not doing any automatic syncing of ticked songs.

I also noticed it's not showing in the Disk Utility.

Is that normal? What could I possibly be doing wrong?

help anyone? thanks in advance...

edit: oops, derrr, I just checked again and it's showing in Disk Utility now.

So what am I doing wrong with the syncing?
 
FIGURED IT OUT.

Sorry for wasting your time with a dumb thread about obvious crap. Maybe I should get some spleep...
