ipod or ipod mini

As far as I know there's not much difference in their function, just the physical dimensions and storage capacity.

Currently the iPod is only 40GBP more for five times the storage of the iPod Mini - 20Gb for 220GBP or 4Gb for 180GBP - so the iPod does seem a better deal. There are well substantiated rumours that the iPod Mini will be increased to 5Gb and there's always the possibility of a slight price drop to go with it, but don't quote me on that! :eek:

Personally, I love the look and the idea of the iPod Mini, but the extra storage for the not-too-much-of-a-price-leap makes the 20Gb iPod far too tempting to ignore, so I'll be getting one in January ... providing I don't get one in my Christmas stocking that is! :rolleyes:

Besides more storage, the iPod has a significantly better battery life, more accessories (e.g. iTalk) available and a slightly larger screen (doesn't make much difference).

On the other hand, the iPod mini is the perfect size and weight for carrying around (the iPod is just acceptable) and it looks better than the iPod.

The U2 iPod looks better than the iPod mini (in my opinion), but it costs too much.

I would go with the iPod mini.

P.S. I wish Apple would release a Special edition (i.e. U2-like) 6Gb iPod mini - that's the one I would really want.
 
i just bought one of each, one 40GB iPod and a green iPod Mini - i have to say that i quickly ran out of space on the mini, it took only a matter of days before i had to start choosing what i wanted to carry around if a were to use the mini. on the 40GB i have no worries at all.

pricewise the mini was kinda 2/3 of the iPod, but since i intended to use the 40GB as an method to do serious system-backups aswell, it has been well worth the extra cash. and of course, being able to carry your whole library all the time is an advantage i appreciate.

software-wise i think they are quite equal, not much of a difference. if any, really..

ceroc addict has a point about the size, but i already find the mini to big to be carried in any tight pocket(like my jeans or whatever). hence, i always leave it in my bag or the pocket of my jacket, where the difference between the two is not an issue. if i use the mini or the 40GB i don't feel the difference. see?

the mini has now been gently handed over to be cared for by my girlfried.. i would have regretted buying only the mini, as it wouldn't have done me much good.. i would say go for the original iPod, the extra space will be well worth it in many ways.
