iPod question

Ive been thinking of getting an iPod for sometime, but ive heard that it can share music with only one computer, i have a G4 and an iBook and that would kinda suck for me...

is there any way around this?

I believe that if you turn off "Automatic synchronizing" and you just manually copy and manage songs through iTunes, you can use it on both Mac easily. You just have to drag songs in and out of the iPod as if it were a playlist. Not so hard, eh?

Also, for more casual things... like, just copying one or two songs off of the iPod, while still letting it automatically synchronize with one particular Mac... there are programs which bypass the invisible music folder heirarchy, and let you copy music out of the iPod.

So, the answer to your question is a big ol' "yes." Hope you enjoy your iPod.

i said ive been thinking about it lol i havent gotten one yet...

im trying to justify the cost right now ;)

thanks for the answers though :)

Sorry, but no. Before you buy the iPod make certain you understand that Apple, under direction of law, had made it difficult to move songs off of the iPod back to a computer.

There are several third party apps that will extract songs. Just do a search on "iPod" on VersionTracker.com. jeb1138 mentioned one. I user Podworks.

You can manage your songs with any number of computers. You can choose to manage playlists manually in iTunes which allows you to copy audio files between computers. You can then also add different playlists from different computers.

When my iPod wasn't being recognized by iTunes anymore I used Tinker Tools to access my library but other tools will do the same.

Once you got one, you never wanna be without it.

Sorry, apparently I didn't make myself clear. I should have said "You just have to drag songs in or OFF to remove them." I apologize.
