iPod shuffle questions

Ok, people have had their iPod shuffles for a few days now (they'll probably be in Australia this Thursday), so here are a few questions:

  • Can they play Audible books (from Audible.com), like the rest of the iPod range?
  • What's the sound quality like?
  • Is the arm band any good for jogging?

I've just read the following at iPodLounge:
"which means that even smaller (though lower-quality) files will play on the diminutive new iPod, in addition to virtually all of the same high-quality MP3, WAV, AAC, and Audible files everyone already loves."

:) :) :)

Can anyone else confirm that the iPod shuffle actually does play Audible files?

Audible files are sold at iTMS and they have the same configuration. Still waiting on delivery of my shuffle but I've read elsewhere that we're good to go.

Hmm... seems a little read of Apple's iPod shuffle webpage would have saved me some fretting
"Play MP3, AAC and audiobooks"

I didn't expect this to be the case, because I thought it would mess up the simplicity of Apple's random playing solution.

Then it hit me: Apple expects you to buy a second iPod shuffle to keep your books separate from your music.

I might just do it too. :D

Just create a playlist and keep the audiobooks in there. Or just keep the one book you're listening to at a time on the shuffle.

I meant when you want to listen to music, there's no way of stopping the shuffle mechanism from selecting a book (if you keep books on the same shuffle).

You can use linear play and avoid the "shuffle" option all together. Or if it comes to a book on "shuffle", simply fast forward to the next track.
