iPod Video screen is blank/frozen

My son had his iPod connected to our iMac today and an update message popped up(I don't know what it said-He's 13). Anyway, now all he has is a blank screen. I have tried using iPod updater, but the updater just says "waiting for iPod to become ready".

Any ideas? Thanks David

Have you tried resetting it? Remove it from the iMac and hold down Menu + Select (button in the middle) for a few seconds.

Yep! Tried that. Tried using the wall charger. The thing just beeps, and does nothing.

Let it run flat and recharge then Menu+Action or charge or reset
