Iraqi PowerBook

So I bought this computer, right? It was the weekend before I got called and I was intending on using it for my video editing. Well, once we got activated, I was in a pickle: do I take the laptop with me and risk getting it banged up or stolen or just leave it in the States for who knows how long? I decided I was going to take it with. Not only did I load like half my CD library on here, but I was able to use it as a DVD player and internet provider where service was available.

Six months later, I see now that I should have planned this out a lot better. Given the choice again, I’d definitely bring it, but I’d have gotten some kind of bang-proof air tight case to save it from the harsh environment here. The screen is dirty beyond my own help, one of the hinges connecting the screen to the computer is busted and the disc drive is completely shot. I’m going to have to check my warranty and seriously weigh my options with this thing.
So... how does Apple handle Iraqi dust warranty issues?

he should give apple care a call. I bet they'd be willing to clean it, fix it, maybe even replace it. They are good and afterall he is a U.S. soldier who served in Iraq, right?

Do you have a source for that anecdote thingy? Somewhere we can read it online?

I don't know if his warranty will cover damage like that, but hopefully he can get the machine fixed without having to replace it at cost. That would suck.
