Hi there,

I´m trying to know if there´s a possibility to connect and old Apple Studio Display 15" to a new Apple iBook G4. The main problem is the connector, because the iBook has this mini-VGA port that can be used with the included miniVGA to VGA converter cable. But this monitor has this ADC connector that cannot be "converted" to VGA.

Does anybody has this setup up and running? If there are any suggestions, there will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for your help.

I think you might need another adapter. My tibook has a DVI->VGA converter, so I assume, if your Apple Studio has a DVI plug, you might be able to find such an adapter for VGA. However, I am quite sure there must be a single adapter for your ibook and Apple Studio to work. Did you check the AppleStore site?
And welcome to the forum. :)

I don't know why you would want to do that since the end result would just be 1024x768 on a larger screen. the ibook can only do 1024 on the built in screen or mirrored and does not support dual screens like the powerbooks.

I think 1024 on a 15" lcd looks too big and ugly but thats me.

yes but those apple 15" lcd's only do 1024 and that open firmware hack voids apple care and has caused damage to hardware on occasion.

Hi there,

Thanks for your prompt replies. I´ve confirmed that the Apple Studio Monitor has only an old ADC connector, and I´ve researched that the only way to connect this kind of hardware to the iBook is buying a really expensive converter called VGAtor (http://www.drbott.com/prod/db.lasso?code=0151-VGAT), from Dr. Bott. I will not bother with this, because with the money that I should spend in this converter, I can get a brand new VGA and DVI TFT monitor that can be used with both Mac and PC hardware.

If you know an alternative way to do this without using this converter, it would be greatly appreciated (taking into account that they are giving me this monitor for free since they don´t use it anymore!!!)

Thanks again.

Cheers.
