Is it possible to retrieve deleted Entourage Calendar data in Tiger?

My friend mistakenly deleted part of his calendar (before a certain date last year) in Entourage on his new iMac. He is running Tiger 10.4.11. Is there a way to retrieve it, even if it means buying special software? But, of course he would prefer free software.
 
Only 2 that I know of: TechTool Pro and Data Rescue II. Both cost. If your friend has used the computer since the deletion, the chances diminish exponentially!
