Hi
I need to run a different version of the Mac OS from the same computer. currently running 10.4.8. but to update some software I need to be running an older ver. of it. so I was wondering if there is any place that provides a service where I can install the older version of the OS and have the system start from that network installation.

I hope I was clear enough..

TIA

Oscar

You'd probably need to repartition your hard drive and install different systems on those drives, making sure you have enough room on each partition for each system (I think about 8GB for each, plus more for virtual memory). The drawback with this is you need to erase your hard disk completely, repartition and then reinstall your systems. It's a bit time intensive but I found it to be a flexible option. Only drawback being a serious loss of hard drive space.

Which app are you trying to upgrade? Does it only function in lower os x systems? Kinda strange...

Keep in mind you can't install an older version of the System software that came with your machine.

What about buying an external firewire drive; booting off the older install CD, then installing to the external HD?

I dont know if what I am doing is good but it works-

I have two hard disks 1st is 10.4.9 and 2nd is 10.3.9

I have used migration assistant to import files and user from panther to tiger, no problems yet.

Although i will update panther when an application not fully compatible with tiger (pro tools LE) is updated.

Should be fine. The only thing is that if you, say, change one thing about one system, the other won't reflect such change. E-Mails for example. Settings etc.
