Is this a good idea?

Hi there!

Basically, I want to buy a monitor (any... just about 17-23 inch), and a keyboard + mouse (bluetooth, probably).

I want to use my Powerbook as a desktop computer when I am at home. So, I use it at school etc, take it home, and use it on a bigger screen with a better mouse input and keyboard. Would the larger screen have any benefits? Or would it just stretch the image?

EDIT: Also, I want to get an external HD and speakers too.

You would have more desktop area .. yes, definitely makes sense. Go for it :)

I just saw a picture on the Apple website showing the Powerbook and a Display, and a wireless keyboard/mouse. Almost the perfect set up.

I'm going to wait a bit, first I'll send off my Powerbook to Apple for repairs again.

I know this is off topic...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you work for Apple? I was checking your site, and you said you recently went to Ireland. Just putting 2 + 2 together, but are you working for Apple UK (who is based in Ireland)?

Also, I saw a beautiful picture on your site (http://giaguara.macosx.com/albums/CapeClear/CapeClear-Pages/Image7.html), I was wondering, could I use it for my desktop? I don't mind if you say no.

Thanks for the reply.

I'll search for the bigger version of that picture once I'm with my bigger hard drive.. (not with me in TX, and no iPhoto libraries yet in the 10.4 Server). And I'll mail it to you. (So, I don't have to say a no to that *photo* question... )

I use my Powerbook in almost exactly that way.
I'm a uni design student and so it's good to have the 12", incredibly portable (just shuv it in my bag) but i prefer to have the space at home for apps life After Effects, Photoshop etc.
I have mine plugged into a standard 17" CRT monitor when back at the flat and it's plug and play, no worries there.
I have everything you have listed pluged in while at home: speakers, keyboard, mouse, monitor, printer, scanner, network so on and just drop the cables in the mornings for uni.
There are two ways you can use it with the monitor:
1) Plug it is and dual screen it. Use the full area of both monitors. eg, have your flash timeline and layers in one window and your stage in another.
2) The PB will act as a desktop machine. If you plug the monitor in and put it to sleep by shutting the screen then moving the mouse the monitor will turn on and have the dock and menu bar in while the laptop stays shut as with any other desktop standard.
Most monitors (99%) will go straight into your laptop with the converter cable provided when you brought the machine.
Hope this is of some help.
