ISA Server and Macs

I am trying to help out a friend of a friend, but I am not knowledgable in Win/Mac networks, so I hope some one here can help me out.

they implemented Microsoft ISA Server and killed the older Proxy Serrver. Evertyhing runs smooth on all the standard PCs. Well, as smooth as could be expected. The problem stems with Macintosh users. have added a second NIC on the ISA server for the Macs to go through. All of Macs now have their gateways set to the second nic in the server. This took care of authenticating them for browsing. (Long story, but you could not use the sam enic as a standard pc) Now the problem is with e-mail. All of the Macs with their gateway set to the ISA server can not check e-mail with Outlook. They get the "client operation failed" error.

I failed to find out what OS is on the Mac's so that is forth coming.

Any help or suggestions?:(

Update: since we have only a handful of Macs, able to set up IP address' manually on the ISA server for the Macs and the problem disappeared.

But I still would like to know how to solve this without manually typing in the IP address of the Macs. :(
