Issue reformatting with Parental Controls

My name is Steven, and I am a relatively new mac user. My father recently passed away about two months ago. I haven't really used my laptop since, but now I am looking to reformat it.

Parental Controls were put on the laptop, and whenever I needed to install/download program that was blocked my father would simply put the password in. I am trying to reformat now, but the Disk Utility program is blocked. I'm not too sure what to do at this point. Should I take it to the apple store? I don't know the administer account username/password.

Would the apple store even be able to do anything about it? I'm 18 and a senior in high school, and will be using this machine in college.

Three things:
  • My condolences on your loss.
  • There is absolutely no need to reformat your hard drive. It is a simple matter for the Administrator of your computer to disable parental controls.
  • It is inappropriate for anyone here to give you the information to countermand your father's wishes. Ask your mother or guardian to do this.
