I have an MP3 and I can't drag it into the song library. It won't take it!! I even made a new empty playlist... it won't take it!!

I can't even try converting it to MP3 again with iTunes because now in iTunes 3, they chaned it to "convert SELECTION to MP3" and I can't select it unless it's in the library!!

AARGHH!! Help!! I even tried making it an AIF and it still won't go in the library :-(

I know this doesn't REALLY fix the problem, but can you install iTunes 2 to a different folder, and convert it THERE, and then bring it across to iTunes 3.

I personally have a problem with iTunes 3 because Apple got rid of the little movie thing on the about iTunes box ;)

It was cooler than the Windows Media Player one ;)

I've had a few mixed experiences with iTunes 3. I started by pointing it to my Music directory, and found it was duplicating all the songs that weren't "properly" filed. That is, if I had a directory in there called "Songs from gretel, august 01" it would go through the folder and create directories by artist and album for each song.

I got around the problem by setting up a new music directory, importing everything in, then getting rid of the old one and moving the new one back into the usual place. It took all of 10 minutes, but it was an annoyance.

Now, a couple of days later, I am finding "broken" links to songs that I have to point back to the file. It seems to affect only a few songs at random. Of my library of 1500+ songs, around 20 came up as broken. Again, no big deal, just an annoyance.

Solrac, have you tried using the import option under the file menu?

That said, I do appreciate the way they've fleshed out iTunes in this version. Autocomplete in the columns and in the smart playlist windows is great. They've also set it up to use the graphite look if thats what you've set in prefs, and it seems to do a fantastic job of sorting out your music library, once you've figured out where you're putting the files.

As simX pointed out, holding down Option when you click the menu will change it to "Convert to MP3".

WOW... Apple is REALLY bad about that option key stuff.

I wonder how many hidden commands and tricks in how many programs I never knew existed because of that...

Anyway, I tried the Convert to MP3... command which is available ONLY by holding the option key down.... and I got this error

I'm guessing the mp3 file is corrupted. It still plays fine, but iTunes is having a problem with SOMETHING in it... Quicktime Plays it fine though...

Is there another convert-to-mp3 program on mac anyone recommends? Thanks....

You could open it in QuickTime and export it as something you like. Another mp3, an AAC, perhaps? Just let QuickTime fix things, I'd say.

ok SCRATCH EVERYTHING

I backed up my iTunes music folder, got rid of it, and started iTunes from scratch.

I can NOT put ANY songs in my library. It just doesn't work.

Any ideas? (The iPod still works when connected).

:( :( :(
