iTunes and CPU Usage

Partially Insane
How is it possible that iTunes in my G4/400 uses 10% of the CPU just to play MP3?

Winamp, in PC only uses as much as 1% of the cpu...

I also noted that apps use much more CPU than they should...
Ever tried putting the mouse pointer over the maximize-minimize button in a window, and taking it out? Repeat that action and see how your CPU usage doubles (that without mentioning how the Dock eats up you CPU...)

Don't you think things should be optimized in this area, or is Apple just wanting us to buy the not-released-yet 2Ghz G5?

Mac OS X prioritizes things efficiently. When there's not many processes using the CPU, OS X allocates more time for displaying the little graphics on the window widgets, basically allowing them to be displayed a few milliseconds faster.

When CPU is being used by many applications, I'm almost positive that you won't see this happen, and if it does, OS X is managing the CPU usage efficiently anyway, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Have u ever tried to play a game like Tony Hawks Pro Skater while listening to mp3's?
On Mac OS X this ain't a problem. The Music plays without any glitches, and Tony Hawks does so too! Both at the same time!

On a PC, doin the same thing will result in a snappy and noisy music experience, as Winamp does not get enough CPU cycles anymore.

So u c, OS X manages the CPU usage pretty good, much better than any windoze version yet does.
