iTunes freezes every time!

Hello all. I've been having problem after problem after problem with itunes. I even went through all my files, moved the corrupt ones, wiped the drive clean, and did a totally fresh install of the OS and still, itunes importes all my music (about 11,000 songs) and as soon as it starts that "gapless playback" crap it freezes the entire system. Yes, I have tried letting it run for hours and hours and overnight and what have you. Yes, I tried removing that plist file or whatever it's called and replacing it once the music is all already there. I also just tried importing folders ONE at a time and even that didn't work! It froze randomly before it even got to the "gapless playback" thing.

I've read all over the internet that this has been a huge lingering problem for people, but I have NOT found a solution! Please tell me that someone, ANYONE has come up with some sort of solution to this! It's driving me mad! I haven't been able to launch itunes or update my ipod in weeks!

Oh and I've also tried to locate an older, more stable version of itunes and have been unable to.

Can anyone suggest ANYTHING?!

Thanks!

Hello, could you tell us:
a. your OS and version
b. the version of iTunes you are using
c. what system you are using
Also, can you import anything without running in to the gapless playback crash?

You can download older versions of iTunes here, but you'll have to make sure it's the right version for your system. I'd find a version specific to your system, but I don't know what you have.

Oldapps doesn't have any old versions of iTunes; I've already tried that. I've seriously been working on this all day like a crazy person.

I'm using OSX 10.4.1 and iTunes 8.

Sometimes it imports the entire library and then freezes when acquiring album cover art. Sometimes it freezes in the middle of the initial import. Sometimes it gets through the cover art and then freezes @ the gapless playback analysis. Could it be random corrupt files? I"ve been searching for programs to fish them out but have been unsuccesful.

Hi again-

Thanks for replying, and for the link. What I ended up doing was importing nearly every folder individually and that seemed to work. However, I couldn't tell if it tried to analyze the gapless playback garbage oh a folder by folder basis or if it will when I relaunch it again so I guess we'll see. If it does and it locks up again, I will revert to 7.

Thanks again!
