iTunes help

Running iTunes 6.01 on OSX 10.4.3
Program will mount blank and/or audio CD but will not play songs or execute a burning operation. Toast works fine and iTunes will play an audio CD from an external DVD/CD burner. ANy thoughts on this hithch?

Also, new external burner will not allow songs purchased at iTunes Store to burn on anything but iTunes..any work arounds for this?

I have a freind that has the same problem , it seems to have happen after the last update does anyone have a fix for this ?
