ITunes, mp3, and more

Okay, I tried to "search" the forums here with no luck (though I'm sure something similar to my question has been asked, so sorry in advance!)

I have an mp3 cd that was created on a pc and I want to add its contents to my Itunes library (on my powerbook G4) and my iPod. For some reason "import" to iTunes will not allow me to select the songs. I have simply copied the disk's contents to my desktop and I can play the songs with iTunes or QuickTime.

What is going on? how do I import these? I've read about converting the file type and all this jazz, but don't know how to do that either!?!?!

One last thing...I have experienced similar stuff with moving songs from a networked pc containing wma's. Any ideas around this? I've read somewhere (here I think) that you can simply trash some iTunes preference file and the next time you open iTunes it will look for all songs and convert/import them for you (like it does with the 1st power up out of the box)...anyone know of this and where to find that magic little preference file?

Thanks b16

i had a bunch of cds that i copied to my PC laptop....i made a foder in my iTunes Library, then put all the files there, make sure that ALLL files are opened only in iTUNES, and there should be no problem with using them ..... wma files are somtimes tricky, but it will convert them all if you wanna goto CONVERT and convert the file to iTUNES library.

www.ipodgarage.com has some info on that too i think.

In the preferences panel, advanced tab i believe, you can specify if you want to copy items into your iTunes music folder when you drag them into your library.

Select that option and dragging and dropping the files from the CD into your iTunes window should copy them to your hard disk. The import button is only for audio CDs that need to be encoded.

thanks for your replies...I'll check out the link to ipod garage and continue seraching. For now, i still can't figure it out.

I tried to drag and drop the files into iTunes and to create my own folder under iTunes (on hard disk not within the software interface) and neither worked!?!?
