ITUNES- Orphaned MP3s

Hello I have just noticed that upon 'organizing' my music, that ITUNES has left some mp3 files orphaned in the general itunes folder, and has removed the .mp3 extension. I tried replacing the extension, and both launching directly as well as adding to the library but no luck. The MP3 icon jumps and the itunes window comes to the front, but then, nothing.


Anyone? Bueller? Anyone?
 
yes, apparently in doing some research,it is a problem that many have suffered due to itunes updates. It has something to do with the 'my itunes store' feature which searches your music files to see what you may like to buy. I need to know how to repair them....
