iTunes play list problems

Hi,

I've lost my iTunes playlists!

I had to erase my Mac's HDD to reinstall OS X so I backed the whole lot up to an external Firewire drive, reinstalled the OS and then let the startup "wizard" copy my files and applications back from the external drive to the Mac's HDD. All went fine apart from losing my iTunes playlists somewhere along the way.

If I start iTunes on the external drive all the playlists are there, intact. If I start iTunes on the Mac's HDD they're not. I've tried copying the iTunes folder in my home folder on the external drive to the home folder on the Mac's HDD but it just removes them when I restart iTunes.

Any help gratefully received!

Found the solution! The answer is to import the following file from the external hard disk; home>music>iTunes>iTunes Music Library.xml using the "import" command under the file menu.

Simple!
