I live in Norway, and there´s only a few radiostations that are streaming in mp3 format so I can listen via iTunes. Can anyone recommend me some radiosites in USA I can listen to from iTunes ? NOT the channels that are preprogrammed in iTunes !!
Thanx !!
Only non-commercial stations, which are a small minority of the US's estimated 10,304 AM and FM broadcasters, are currently broadcasting in .pls (the kind itunes can read) format. This is because a bill was passed that prohibits stations from streaming local advertisements with their online broadcasts. Stations now need to buy (from what I've heard) really, really expensive software that filters out the ads. Even worse, this software only works with Windows Media or Real for the most part. Additionally, you'll need to signup as a listener and give a US address on the stricter ones (333 Fake Street, Denver CO would probably work
) If you don't mind that, I can recommend some local stations here in the NYC area that do broadcast online. The first one is non-commercial so you won't need to do much to get it to work.
http://www.wbgo.org/listennow/ - Jazz 88.3 FM (Newark, NJ) - Real Format
http://www.z100.com/player/ - Z100 100.3 FM (New York, NY) - Pop music. You have to signup... no idea what format although I suspect Real or WMP.
http://www.ktu.com/main.html - WKTU (Dance) 103.5 FM (New York, NY) - Site's down at the moment..
The two rap stations, Power 105.1 and Hot 97, don't seem to have a broadcast right now. Additionally, the rock station (Krock) isn't broadcasting either.
There are lots of other good stations that aren't broadcasting as well. I'd say your best bet would be to check into online-only broadcasts. MacStreams.com lists some good ones... my personal favorite broadcasts are Sunshine FM (Nyiregyhaza, Hungary... listed in iTunes under international) and Rant Radio (listed in iTunes under industrial/electronica I think... if not try
www.rantradio.com.)
