itunes to movies

We all know iTunes is a big success w/ legal music downloads. We need something like itunes, but for movies. Streaming movies is no good. It would have to be a service where you keep the movie and are allowed to burn it to DVD.

Is something like this in the works by Apple or someoen else ? In my opinion, this is the next logical step in media entertainment.

We've had this discussion a few times in the past. And I think that yes: Somebody should do it. In fact: Apple should do it. H.264 is the right basis for it (new cool codec in QuickTime 7, Tiger). When iTMS came along, "the internet" had long shown the growing interest for digital music tracks. The same's happening with movies and TV shows now on the 'net (basically anything you can get on a DVD now).

I just guess that Apple had quite a hard time persuading the music industry that iTMS was good for them. And I guess that the movie industry (some of which are the same players, actually) isn't exactly easier.

And then: Those movie files would - even with H.264 - take up quite some space. 500-800 MB at least. Eats a _lot_ of bandwidth, and bandwidth ain't cheap. And once you actually have to pay for it, the price might be too high for it to be practicable.
