IV50 codec

Hey, does anyone know if there's a media player about that will let me play files that need an IV50 codec? I've looked around a ton of old forum posts to no avail.

The only way to play these files is with QuickTime Player in Classic, using the Intel Indeo Video codecs (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60366). There is X-native player/codec available, and there probably never will be.

Once opened in Classic, you might want to convert them to a more future-proof format like mp4.

Yea, that's pretty much what I read about it in the old threads I went through.

Why don't you have Classic? It shipped with your computer with the IV50 codec included.

Apple quit shipping classic pre-installed on most models a while ago. Some of the newer ones don't even include it on the restore CDs/DVD anymore. His (1.8 G5 iMac) is one that didn't come with it pre-installed. It should should be found on disc 2 of the restore discs (if CDs) or on the restore DVD. You just have to install it.

Point of clarification--I didn't say that Classic was pre-installed. I said that Classic shipped with the OP's computer and it did.
