Jaguar slows my Warcraft3

I find that Warcraft 3 has become very choppy after installing Jaguar. This is particularly when my army clashes headon with opponents.

Here is my config:-

Tibook 667mhz
512 mb RAM
16 mb ATI card

anyway to make things improve? I have already set the WC3 video options settings to 640x480x16, which is the lowest already. I have already turned shadows off. But I do not know what is occulation and textures. Advice appreciated.

Thanks

ive noticed it slowed down Black and White for me...

my theory, QE takes up too much of the video cards attention, either game companies or apple needs to disable QE when a game is launched.... or OSX will no longer be able to play games smoothly :(

Games don't use Quartz Extreme, so I don't see this being the issue. However, there IS something taking more cpu cycles than under 10.1.

HOWEVER: games use the graphics card, QE uses the graphics card, the system uses QE.
Very true - but is QE being used while your playing a game of WC3? There's nothing for QE to render, therefore I venture to guess that QE is not slowing down the system when it's not being used.

as far as i know on a QE enabled machine, it always has the attention of the video card, that way things are quicker, also every window you have open, every transparent object, everything in QE goes to the video card as a basic texture (if i remember correctly)

so if you have a bunch of textures in the background, and the OS requiring the attention of the video card, then i say it is very very possible that QE is causing the slow down...

kinda a half assed solution to something that should be fixed by the companies themselves dontchya think? ;)

maybe... ;)

but I often quit the finder when I am playing games like warcraft3, starcraft, etc. (which isn't often...)

so how do you go about quitting it, unix command line? cause iirc you only get the relaunch option in force quit

i bet im missing something obvious lol

I just have a hard time believing that Apple would not have considered all these aspects before implementing QE. Logically what should happen is that QE would release all texture allocations on the card if a program required raw OpenGL mode, and when the program is releases control back to the computer, QE kicks back in, loads up it's textures in the card and continues on it's merry way. It would also explain why there's such delays when coming back from an full-screen OpenGL game, like WC3.

It would be very microsoft-eque if they took the sloppy route.

Regardless, we are all speculating at this point, as none of us know for sure.

I wager that it's one (or multiple) of the many new 'services' that startup on system boot that are hogging extra cpu time above that 10.1 was.
