Java not working in IE 5.13

Hello, first I would like to appologize for my possibly basic questions. I am new to MAC but really starting to like it.

I am running OSX 10.1.3 with IE 5.13 and cannot figure out how to get java running. It is installed and I can get some applets running in Netscape and Mozilla but not IE. I am trying to access really basic Applets from Sun's samples.

What I do see is "Applet not Initialized". I am thinking this is a pluggin problem because I had to install one for Mozilla and Netscape to get them to work.

I saw a few posts describing Carbon. I am not quite sure what it is or how to use it. I aslo saw someone mention "Classic Mode". What is this? Could anyone elaborate on what carbon is and / or classic mode?

Would anyone know how to get a pluggin working in IE so that the Java will work?

Or would you know of any resources where I may find the answer to my questions?

Thanks,
Brian-

Hi Brian

welcome to the world of mac. you've asked a lot of questions. more than i can or have the time to answer. so i will start with some basics. Classic mode is the running of os 9 while booted in osx. it can be launched in system prefs or set to launch at startup. it will launch automatically if you launch a pre osx app.

in simple terms, cocoa is the native environment of osx. carbon apps take advantage of that environment but must be adapted to do so - carbonized. non carbon or cocoa apps can only be run in classic or pure os 9 or lower.

there is lots of info around this site about lots of stuff. read thru some of it and you will start to pick some of it up.

and don't expect too much help with ie. it is not the browser of choice for the majority of regulars, particularly those who help with troubleshooting because they are aware you could spend the rest of your life trying and still not get everything in it working right.;)

hope that helps for starters.:)
