Java WebStart clunky and junky with Leopard!!

Hey! I'm really hoping someone can help me out here. I'm deploying an app with Java Web Start. Right now I'm testing with a new Macbook running Leopard and there's simply no way to get a desktop icon to show up. Finder also does not discover the app. The only way to launch it is to open up Java Web Start and use the cache viewer! (Or to be online and use the browser again.) As you can imagine, this is a HORRIBLE user experience. On Windows, it prompts you to save a desktop icon and then actually saves it. On Mac, it prompts but then never saves anything. Another workaround is to go to Java Web Start, right click, and say "Install Shortcuts". The same prompt comes up, but again, nothing is saved to the desktop. Nor does it allow you to save it to the Applications folder or anywhere else. Anyone come across a fix for this problem??? Thanks in advance!

There is no need to rant and rave. Calm down and think through what you are trying to do. To start, MacOS X is not Windows. It is not a fault of the OS that it does not behave like Windows. MacOS X doesn't have "Shortcuts"; it has "Aliases." However, there is no reason to install Aliases on the Desktop.
  • What is the source of the Java app?
  • What is its file extension?
  • Are you using some kind to installer to install the app?
  • Is is possible to install the app manually?
