Just charging iPod on computer

How can I set it so if I plug someone else's iPod into my computer it will just cahrge their iPod and not replace their library with mine.

use a firwire ipod cable (if the ipod in question was made after september 2005). these ipods don't support firewire, it tells you so, then charges it.

I thought iTunes is supposed to ask before replacing the library. Just say no to replacing the library.

With YOUR iPod plugged in, check the Manually manage music
selection in iPod options.

*iTunes Version 7.1.1 (5) - Running on a G4 MDD Dual 1.25 GHz

yes, this is the way to do it, but it's also far to easy to do it the other way. i've erased the music off my ipod enough times to know that iTunes loves to erase. it might even be a badly worded dialogue box, i don't recall. i do know that it should be a lot harder to erase an iPod.

I've always found it extremely easy to choose the right option from that dialogue. Never accidentally erased an iPod. Simply connect it. iTunes comes up and asks. You don't even have to _answer_ the dialogue, the iPod's already being charged. But there's, AFAIK, a "cancel" or "ignore" button. That's the right one. Just don't hit "okay" when it asks to erase the iPod.
