HA! HA! HA!
I just got an Apple keyboard for use with my iBook. I set a few keys on it to take advantage of the extra F# keys.
But now I've lost usage of the F1-F5 keys. I went to System Prefs and hit restore Keyboard defaults. Nothing. Tried it with the external keyboard plugged in and out. Restarted, tried it again and repaired permissions. Nothing.
Any ideas?
 
did you unmark the "use for custom action" field in System Preferences? And do you have the same issues on other accounts?
 
Hitting the function key while the keyboard was plugged in did it. Thanks. I had the custom button untoggled. Oddly enough, I had hit the function key earlier but it didn't take. Oh well, thanks for the suggestions. :)
