about five years ago, i didn't have any macs nor did any of my friends. I got a powermac for myself in 1999. Then I purchased 2 more powermacs in 2002 for the company (company paid for it). I got a new powerbook 1.5 yrs ago. I got my mom a powerbook last year (she paid for it). Today, my bro decided to buy a powerbook too. he's selling his Dell Inspiron b/c dust gets trapped in his fan and causing it to overheat and shut down on occassion. plus, one of my friends got a iBook 3 yrs ago. another friend's brother just bought a used 17" powerbook a few weeks ago.

btw., my first job interview during college was at Apple. I met Jonny Ive and didn't know how famous he was b/c I wasn't really a mac user then. What I would have done if I knew I could have been on the product design team designing the imac and ipods!!!

Very cool, and they say only 3% of america uses an imac. There are 21 people on my street. I have been to everyone's home. There are 3 HP's 1 Dell 5 Microns 8 macs. The others don't own computers. The closest mac dealer is 118 miles away.

In the advertising industry, this is what the call Viral Marketing. Where the products are effectively sold based on word-of-mouth.

Of course this ususally only works for great products... Otherwise no one would bother telling thier friends about it.

At our company we've recently started trying to figure out which of our customers are "Net Promoters". I.e. which of our customers are so happy/satisfied that they'd tell their friends. And how do we make our less satitisfied customers happier so the don't become "detractors".

Very friendly neighborhood you live in.

I've been here 10 years and only been in one neighbor's house only once... And he has no computer at all.

I guess this is life in the big city... We are packed in, but are not nearly as friendly/trusting as the folks in the 'burbs and rural ares.

[/QUOTE] I'm only assuming you live in an apartment or condo maybe, but don't you at least know the names of your neighbors.I suppose people move in & out so much they get to thinking why start a freindship with anybody.

Nope... I live in a house. But we do have several apartments and rental houses near us. Rent is so friggin high in SF that no tennant seem to stay longer than 9 months or a year.

Also I'm @ work nearly 12 hours/day (including 2 hours commuting)... I leave at 7am and don't get back until 7pm. Most of my neighbor interaction comes on weekends while I'm sweeping leaves.

Yep... It was originally a corner store w/ and attached 2 bedroom apartment. It was a grocery store and later an ice cream shop. But it was converted to full residential in the 1970's. The corner store part is now a very nice kitchen/dining room. The former apartment kitchen + parlor was opened up into one big living room.

Definately only of those only-in-San-Francisco houses! :D
