L2 cache

I just thought of buying the titanium power book ..
I noticed that the older models of the titanium had 1Mb L2 cache.

The recent ones have only 256k L2 cache.. how does this effect performance?

I am a bit dumb when it comes to hardware.

Is that a reason why the titanium prices dropped ?

thanx in advance

I believe that the older PBG4s 1 MB of L2 cache ran at half the speed of the processor, while the 256K of L2 cache on current-gen PBG4s run at the speed of the processor.. I'm not sure how this actually affects the speed, but the extra-high-speed cache probably helps... I'm sure its enough that it doesn't take a performance hit compared to the previous gen G4.

But that's not a reason why the prices dropped. Apple probably just wanted to stimulate sales for the first iteration of the PBG4 (they actually lowered the price halfway through this year, since the PBG4 wasn't updated for 10 months) and the new PBG4s stuck with the lower price.
