LaCie d2 external drive troubles

Hi,

I just purchased a LaCie d2 250GB external drive for my iMac. Whenever I plug in the drive the icons of files on both the LaCie drive and my Mac HD are messed up. Only about 2/3rds of the upper portion of the icon can be selected and highlighted and the lower 1/3rd does nothing. Unable to select the file or highlight it. I've attached a pic.

Ive ran disc utility on both HDs, but nothing is working.

Any ideas?

Looks like a problem with the Finder. Try doing a cache clean (probably won't help, but it can't hurt, and you should do it every now an then anyway. Utilities include Yasu and Cache Out X - Google them!).

Other than that, an archive and install is your best option as far as I can see. Use your system install DVD, and change the install options to "Archive and Install". It will retain everything on your original Mac install, and simply replace the key system files. This should fix it, but you might have to install some third-party applications (most should be alright without a re-install)
