lan problems

flacochala

I`m in!!
i have an emac and a pc with an amd athlon (with win XP) with adsl provider and i need to share my adsl connection with my emac... how do i connect a lan with my pc and my emc??? and how do i do to share my adls connection between them??thanks for the help...

Very easy! But we'll need more info. What os do you have on your emac?
You gotta choose which machine you want to be plugged to the WAN (internet). Then you simply share the connection (WinXP simply rightclick the connection and share for the lan). Be sure your pc or your mac (at least one of them) has two network cards, or do you have a adsl-lan-combo card?
However, the best thing would be to buy a router which will share the connection to the comps. Any further questions? Ask! ;)

thankss.. in my emac i have macosx jaguar.. and in my pc win XP... my modem adsl is usb, and i have ethernet cards in both machines... thanks for your help man...

Help?
Your modem is using the usb interface for the connection to the clients? Hmmmm, this doesn't sound good, if you think a router will fix all now. I don't know of any router accepting usb as the connection to the modem. If money is no concern, buy a ethernet modem or best: router with an including modem. If you want that stuff finally to work without any money plug the modem via usb to your pc, setup the connection so your windows box will have a proper internet access and finally share that connection for all lans. One network card will be enough in each system. Use a direct connection to the mac. You don't have to bother with regular or crosslinked cables. Your mac can handle both ;)

A number of Routers, including Links, use either USB or Ethernet for a connection. Also, a lot of modems can use either.
