Laptop question

With college less than a year down the road for me, I would like to buy a laptop. I know that I want a 12" screen, because I don't really have the need or want for a large screen. But I can't decide on an iBook or a PowerBook. I have read most of the reviews on both, which makes the choice even tougher. I want to be able to play games aside from all the normal school junk. I was curious on what you guys think the best choice would be. Any opinion that could make my choice easier is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I've been seeing a lot of interest in people getting the 12" powerbook. Some look at it as a buffed-up iBook. If money is not a problem, that's the one to get. Comes with a G4 processor, whereas iBook comes with a G3. It also comes airport-extreme ready.

I've got a 12" ibook, but if i would be getting me a laptop now, i'd get the 12" powerbook. so get that if the money is not an issue. thinking that if you'll use it for the next 2-4 years, i believe it's worth the difference in the prices. at least, i'd get the pb. but having the other 'book i'm not changing it ..

I've also got the 12" iBook, and it is a nice bit of hardware ... but I'd say the powerbook is worth the extra money. Its graphic system is more advanced, its G4 processor should make light work of the stuff the iBook struggles with, and the Airport Extreme slot and thinner profile make for one desirable little machine.
If cash is a problem, get the iBook - they're great. If not, go for the PowerBook.

I too am facing the same dilemna. But, I don't really need a computer so am not too anguished about the choice. From what I have read the iBook is mature and pretty problem free and for the price difference a good bargain. Since I don't do games or run graphic intensive programs, the iBook would work great for me. Having said that, I just got a Canon Mini DV and am doing a little bit of video editing. While my iMac 400 Mhz does ok, I can imagine that doing a lot of editing would be a lot nicer on a faster processor. So, with that in mind is Apple going to come out with a faster processor within the next 6 months and phase out the G3? and if they do come out with a faster processor will the G4s come down in price? Hmmm, where oh where is that crystal ball when you need it.

i think we'll see the G3 hit 1GHz before it gets phased out. thats at least 1 or 2 more updates for the iBook. i think they G3 will probably be with us until the G5 comes, so basically when hell freezes over. :p

mac.fryke.com has a rumor about the next G3 called Mojave but this is after the next G3 called Gobi which has yet to hit shelves. i dunno but i wouldnt count the G3 out yet. in all honesty, i think its going to out live us all. :D
