I'm looking for a good place to get replacment parts for my 17" powerbook. Mainly the outer casing. I'm thinking about doing some customization to the outside of my laptop so if the outer casing isn't too expensive i'd like to get one and work on that, so as not to completly mess up me laptop:p

Tell us specifically what you want to do before you forge ahead and do anything stupid.

Well mainly i want to change the color of the apple, I'm pretty sure that the paint used can be removed with alcohol but i dont want to ruin the only one i have, so if i could get a replacement to work on, that would be the best course of action. If i can't get a replacement part, im just not going to do it because i dont want to go and mess up my purdy laptop:D

a teacher of mine just put an old school apple logo sticker, the one with the colors on his Tibook, it looked awesome, that may be a way to go if all you want to do is color the apple logo:)

If you're going to paint your computer, use water-based paints (making sure they stick to the metal, of course). They can then be removed simply by rubbing the area with a wet cloth. I recommend you don't use anything not water-based because you could cause physical harm to the case or when you try to remove it (even with alcohol-based solvents).

As for spare parts, contact any Apple resellers in your area and ask if they have anything. Also try second-hand shops online.

Definitely DO NOT use water based paints to paint the machine if that's what you decide to do.

MacAddict Magazine had a step by step of how to paint your Mac. If you check their archives, I bet you will find it. They gave a specific kind of paint to use.

My brain's synchros are broken... :)

Cheryl, I have every issue of Mac Addict dating back to around 1999 (except for Feb.-June 2003, since my subscription was "suspended" at the time); do you know which issue it is in? I remember the article, but I'd rather not dig. You don't have to, either, I'm just saying if you know off the top of your head that would be helpful.

Newer Macs are different though - most new cases are in transparent plastic and have to be painted on the inside. The xlr8yourmac.com fora is the right place to look for ideas and links :)
