Laserwriter 8500 repair/replace?

Have a 10 year old Laserwriter 8500 that connects to my iMac via ethernet. It is a great machine and now the take up "roller" for the 11x17 manual feed is not working.

Do you know of a repair person near downtown that can come to my house to repair the manual feed take-up roller?

Or a place I can get a laser printer new or refurbished?

Thank you!

A lot has happened since the LW 8500 was still marketed. Laser printers have gotten a *lot* cheaper since that time. Print quality hasn't really improved (although resolution has), which means that if you _can_ have the 8500 repaired without paying hundreds of dollars, you should. I'd google "laserwriter 8500 repair" - and maybe add your location to that search. I've read about one person doing repairs on those things using defective 8500s, meaning he'll reuse the parts that still work to replace the ones that don't in yours. But I sadly don't remember any names or URLs.

Buying new laser printers is not really a daunting task: Just hop over to Hewlett-Packard's website and look at what laser printers they currently have at what prices. Competitors (Canon, Brother etc.) will be in the same price range more or less for the same functionality. You can buy laser printers basically at any computer/media store. The question really is what features you need. Duplex, paper-cassette size etc.

Btw.: Where are you from? Maybe someone has a really good tip for that area.
