After the fifth successive post from a friend containing some zipped virus I decided to send him a walk-through to get cleaned up. I was checking for an on-line virus scan as step-one and went to sarc.com where i found
this. So how do they get away with that!?

(btw - my iBook passed with flying colors...)

It's checking your open ports, is all. Some ports are deemed high security risks if they're open, and this is checking that.

The thing is the use of apple imagery... A G4 with a cinema display, as if they were the epitome of insecurity.

The picture depends on what machine you're connecting from (or at least, what machine it thinks you're connecting from).

It just checks the User Agent string the browser gives to figure out what sort of system you are using. Pretty nifty, really.

You can change it by using the Debug menu in Safari and changing the User Agent. It'll show a nice beige box if you select Windows MSIE 6.0. ;)

Hehe ..

Risks .. "appear safe" >> solution .. install norton? :p ::ha::

Hey, I think they should correct one typo in that window .. >> security scam sound better than security scan if they are telling me to install norotn
