LDAP and Local Login

If I was to set up a machine as an LDAP client, so that in order to log on to the machine a user had to authenticate with an OS X server running Open Directory etc, would there be anyway to bypass the LDAP login and simply log onto the machine as a local user?

For example say a user at work had an iBook that was set up to log on to a network using LDAP, but then when they take the iBook home they want to log on to the machine, obviously the LDAP server is unavailable, so would the user be able to log on as a local user to the machine?

If this is possible, how would I go about setting it up, assuming that I already have the LDAP stuff working.

Thanks in advance,

O!

It is easy to define a local user. Just make one in the accounts option in the configuration panel. Those users only have local rights, no network rights. But you can still connect to a server. Regretfully you will have to use a different user name (unless you create a LDAP slave on the laptop, might not be avisable.

Using a different user at home also prevents other problems like not having the home directory missing ...

Good luck, Kees
