Linksys wireless problems.

I know this has been addressed before, but I still am having trouble using the router for wireless access. It works fine otherwise, but I bought it so I could blog on the toilet.

Airport recognizes the wireless signal just fine, too, I just can't access anything on the internet, though I can screw around with the router's control panel itself, 192.168.1.1. What's going on? I don't have dns or IP information from my ISP, but supposing I could get it, I'm not sure where to put it. Is there a way to retrieve this information without having to deal with Comcast's customer service people?

Total novice here. Thanks for any help in advance.

Comcast as well as any other provider has to provide the DNS information otherwise you won't ever be able to resolve the URL name to the IP address of that webserver. Most of the time, if you have the computer connected directly to your service and set it to receive the dynamic IP automatically, your computer's network settings should also have the DNS and domain name information given automatically to you from Comcast's DHCP server once you are connected. However, if you're using a router in between and the router is now supplying you with the IP address on your Mac laptop using DHCP, you also have to tell the router to assign the DNS nameservers and domain name as well as the IP address through DHCP.

If you are configuring the Mac laptop with a static IP address, you have to manually include the DNS nameservers and domain name manually on your Mac laptop as well.

This may not be helpful - if not, sorry.
Have you set up the router to do the PPPoE authentication/login to the ISP, and then turned it (PPPoE) off on the computer?

Actually, she's able to get out if the computer is hardwired through ethernet, just not through the wireless.

I'm guessing that ednakayama is using WPA encryption on the router and since she has an original Airport (I'm guessing this since she didn't say Airport Extreme) which only supports WEP, she's not able to connect. This is a hunch at this point.

One other thing to consider: Are you sure you're connecting to your wireless router? If you left the default SSID name set, then it's possible that someone near you has done the same and you're picking up their wireless network. If you haven't done so, change the SSID name and try connecting to it from the Mac.
