linux server local network

Hi the list,

Great!! I've just acquired an ibook with jaguar on it.

Elsewhere I have a linux mandrake 9.1 with 2 ethernet cards, one (eth0) for internet and the other (eth1) for my local network.

My mdk9.1 runs quite well with an ssh server on wich I can connect from internet or localhost (through eth0 and eth1).

But when I try to connect by a direct crossed connection my ibook to my eth1, both computers can't see themselves.

I think I have nothing to change on the mdk (authorizations seems all right), but what are the software or even the configuration I have to use to connect my ibook to my mdk.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

So ping doesn't work, either?
Crossover cable probably not required - auto detect (I think -- I don't have an ibook)
Can other computers see eth1 ? What IP addresses are you using for the local net?
