List view by default in Finder?

Stupid question -

How do I get Finder windows to open up in List view by default??

For some reason they always open in Icon view, and I haven't been able to figure out how to change it. Any thoughts?

While in the finder, go to preferences to make sure that the option "open new windows in column view" is NOT checked.

Then close all finder windows. Now open a new one, go to the "view" menu at the top of the screen and select "as list." Once you have done that, close the finder window you had opened. Now open a new window.

It should be in list view
