Loading Pictures Onto my Mac

This may really seem like a simple question, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to load pictures onto my Mac laptop. I have a Kodak camera and I put it on the dock and plugged in the USB Port, but my computer doesn't recognize that something is plugged in. Could someone please tell me how its done?

The application iPhoto should open automatically when the camera is plugged in. Mine used to but since I upgraded to 10.5.2 it has stopped recognising the camera :(

A workaround that I have found is to remove the memory card from the camera and put it in a card reader. My Sony works OK that way.

There is a "hidden" application that sits between the USB input and iPhoto. It's called Image Capture. Open Image Capture and check the preferences. Make sure it is set to open iPhoto etc. That may work and save you the trouble of playing with the card.

Turn the camera on. Mac won't recognize it in iPhoto or other programs when it's off.
If there is nothing happening when the camera is on, open iPhoto or whatever program you want to use for importing the contents (image capture, Aperture, iPhoto etc etc) and tell this program to be the default.

Howto&FAQ is for tutorials, not questions, so moved to software...
