Locked operating system CDs

I have an iMac 333 with OS 8.6. I am trying to install OS 9.2.1. I have CDs of OS 9.0 and OS 9.2.1. Holding the C key down, the computer starts up from both CDs. When I try to install either OS, I get the message "Acrobat Reader cannot run when the boot volume is locked." Each CD does have the picture of a locked pad lock in the upper left corner of the screen. How do I unlock these CDs? Thanks
 
You don't _have_ to read the ReadMes... Can't you simply run the installer?
 
the padlocks mean it is read only, and cds are read only, you can't write to them. and what reader is doing is trying to copy files from the archive before running the installer,i've run into this problem many times. its a flaw with reader. run the os installer, then reboot to the hard drive, copy the reader installer to the drive, then run it.
