Just a quick question
I have a B&W G3 Tower that I am using with Protools LE and an Mbox. Right now it has a 500 Mhz upgrade G3 card in it, and 1 gig of ram.
It runs OS X pretty well, but Protools continues to error about a CPU something-or-other. After many attempts I decided to boot into OS 9 and try out 5.x. Things are working now, but now I have to deal with OS 9...and from someone that came over to Macs for good after OS X was out, OS 9 is pain. But at least things are working, right?
Anyway, I am thinking about an upgrade card for the CPU to see if I can get OS X and Protools 6.x to work on it. From looking around here's what I have found.
PowerLogix makes two cards:
G4 @ 550 Mhz
G3 @ 900 Mhz
They both run about $250, so I am at a loss for what to do. Does Protools use the Velocity Engine? Basically, which would benefit me more?
My other problem is that I don't want to buy one of these only to find out it's not enough juice for the program.
Any thoughts from anyone?
Further, does anyone out there have a B&W (with a G3) running both OS X and Protools 6.x? If so, what the heck do I do to get it going for me?
Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions anyone can toss my way.
Later,
Eddie
