Lost iPhoto app on Macbook. Help please!

My macbook recently had hard drive malfunctions, and upon fixing all of the problems, I realized I lost my iPhoto application in the process. The iPhoto application is still on my dock, except instead of its normal icon, it is replaced with a question mark. I am unable to open it when I try to click it, but my pictures still show up when I want to upload pictures from my macbook to a website (such as facebook). Some of my friends have suggested that I insert Disc 1 that's included with my macbook to re-install it, but I am afraid that doing so will delete all of the pictures that are currently stored in my macbook. So the question is, WILL INSTERTING DISC 1 AND RE-INSTALLING iPHOTO DELETE ALL OF MY CURRENT STORED PICTURES?

First, check the Application folder to see if iPhoto is there. You can try starting it from there. It could be the icon in the dock is corrupt.

If not, go to Home>Pictures. All your photos should be there. Make a back up of those files. This can be on a flash drive, DVD, or external drive.

Now you can use your iLife disk to install iPhoto.
