M$ will NOT offer Windows dual-boot?!

To be completely honest, I find the option of not giving dual-boot absolutely repulsive. It's not enough that people already are sick of Microsoft's OS, now it's refusing them the opportunity to use more than just their OS.

Apple is removing OS 9, but it isn't disabling it completely.
 
windows people can always dual boot. its just not going to be part of the os anymore. there is nothing to stop a user from getting a boot manager to dual boot.

this article was on slashdot too, and people are just confused. ms is just taking away their own implementation of dual-booting. you can still use a 3rd party one.
 
Microsoft is not eliminating the option to dual boot your PC. They are just not allowing vendors to ship two versions of Windows on PCs they sale. The user will still be able to install and dual boot different versions of Windows if they please. The ability to do so isn't being removed.

This is entirely different than Apple who is making their hardware no longer compatible with older versions of Mac OS.

and itanium is right, you can still dual boot, ms is just stopping companies from putting both on computers and only getting paid for one

"Microsoft will no longer offer dual installation but will offer downgrade rights in Windows XP," confirmed a spokeswoman for the company's licensing division.

"Previously, with dual install, a customer had to pick just one of the two operating systems and then stick with the one they chose. With downgrade rights, a customer can install an older operating system and move back up to Windows XP whenever they choose," the spokeswoman added.

Downgrade and Upgrade rights they say and NOT dual boot...

As for third-parties we don't know yet! :rolleyes:
 
the way i understood is they wouldnt offer it out of a computer package with companies..

who knows what is going to really happen *shrugs*
 
i say lets kill em all . all of those evil windows machines and build a world of beautifully designed macs to decorate our rooms, show off to our friends(at least thats what i do with my loser PC friends) with amazing displays and amazing sound systems so that we can all watch our favourite dvds :) (sorry if im beein immature.... :p)
