Hello, all.
I'm trying to set up a Server in our small office for 2 Macs and 1 PC. I need this system to back itself up manually on a nightly or weekly basis and allow both system types to see one another's files. (PC accessing Mac folders, etc.) I'm not interested in sharing fonts or other sticky points at this time but haven't set up a server since System 7 and could use some refreshers. Any help is greatly appreciated. (Ethernet system is already in place.)
Questions:
1. Is buying OSX server software and using a Dual G4 sufficient for an office of 10 or less people? (Versus buying XServe box)
2. Is there a place online to find some step by step instructions for setup? I'm comfortable that I can figure out the Mac side but am really not familiar with the PC needs on either side.
3. Is tape drive still the best way to do regular backups? If so, which drive is considered reliable and is there a standard GB size I should be looking for?
4. Is Retrospect still the best software for this kind of backup?
5. Any common pitfalls I should be looking for that I'm not thinking to ask about?
That should help get me started. Thanks again for any help you can offer.
