Hi there, I have a 3/4year old mac book pro, version 10.5.8, 2.4 GHz Intel core 2duo..

I wanted to ask whether it was a good idea to update it to a higher version. ie. to snow leopard and lion..I have hear that snow leopard can end up slowing down older mac books, and wanted some advice?

Also, below my scrolling panel, to the right of the latch where the screen closes is significant wear, or so it appears, running along the edge, is this a common occurrence, even though I clean it regularly and avoid scratching the aluminum. It appears as if the top edge of the screen leave a line on the bottom section below the scrolling panel!

One final query, my screen has dark marks to the left hand side behind the screen, at first I thought it was dirt, but then saw it was behind the screen. is it possible for dirt to even get in behind the screen, again, im pretty obsessed when it comes to keeping it clean, so I dont see how it could have gotten dirty underneath!!

Any help with the questions would greatly put my mind at ease :) Thanks

Your MacBook Pro is is new and fast enough to get it faster if you move to Lion.
It might be worth to check how much RAM you have - if it's mot maxxed out yet, add some more. It'll make a difference in speed.

Could you post a picture showing the dark spots on your screen?
Yes, it's possible (but not easy) to get dark gunk behind the screen after years of use.
